Cancer Recovery 10

Another friend died of cancer this week. Every time I lose a friend to premature death from cancer, it renews my effort to get the word out about prevention and early detection of cancer.

What you choose to do is up to you, but if you want to stay healthy or regain your health, the main thing to remember is to take good care of your mind and your body. It feels good to take care of your self, and it helps to prevent cancer.

So if you’re going to take care of your health, these are the basic elements to consider: eat right, exercise, sleep well, and keep your stress level under control. We all have to eat and sleep but how we do that makes a difference. Movement of any sort is good and if you choose something you like it’s even better. Stress can be a biggie: most people have stress of some sort every day, but the trick is to balance it with relaxation.

If you are aware of what’s going on with your body and you notice something different, then it’s a good idea to check it out. It helps with the diagnosis if you monitor your symptoms, keep a record, and if you think you have a problem, a doctor can help you figure it out.

It’s a fact that if you find some cancers early enough, you can fix them and get on with your life. Cancer screening for breast and colon cancer is easy to do and accessible in most countries which practice Western style medicine. If you are in the right age bracket, I hope you will consider getting regular screening for cancer.

Forget about mammograms being uncomfortable – what are a few minutes of discomfort if it helps to find an early cancer before it progresses? I know mammograms aren’t perfect, but until there is a better way, they do provide 75% to 90% protection .

I hope this helps you or some one else you know to prevent cancer – I miss all the friends I’ve lost to cancer!
